6th Bloomsday Bathe on the Beach, Malaga – Spain.


For the sixth year we are planning a simple reading, swim or paddle off the beach on Bloomsday this year on Thursday, 16th June. 

What makes our event a little different is that the readers are encouraged to read their pieces in their own language. This is a fun, non intellectual, nor threatening event.

And it is FREE. All that is required is that you turn up on time to participate. It will be a memorable occasion. A fun get together! But you must bring your own copy of Ulysses. 

 We will be reading from Chapters 4 and 5.

We will be reading from Chapters 4 and 5 as above. These are the Calypso episode that takes place between 8 and 8.45 AM at number 7 Eccles Street where Mr Bloom first enters the story. Mr Leopold Bloom ate with relish the inner organs of beasts and fowls.
Each reader will read between 1.5 and 2 pages in their own language.
Chapter 5 is known as Lotuseaters and runs from 9.40 to 10.05 in the book. St Andrews church and Sweny chemist are mentioned. By lorries along sir John Rogerson´s Quay Mr Bloom walked soberly, past Windmill Lane ....

Where: The Beach, Fuengirola

Paseo Marítimo Rey de España, 29640 Fuengirola, Málaga, Spain. Opposite Hotel Florida, beside La Cepa Playa. Bring a beach chair or towel or you can sit on the sand!


When: THURSDAY 16 June 2016, 8.00 AM – 11.30 AM.


Cost: Free, no booking required. Breakfast will be available in the local Chiringuito, La Cepa Playa.

Bloomsday – June 16th  – is an annual celebration among Joyce fans throughout the world, from Fuengirola to Melbourne. It is celebrated in at least sixty countries worldwide. The novel,  Ulysses , by James Joyce recounts the hour-by-hour events of one day in Dublin – June 16, 1904 – as an ordinary Dubliner, Leopold Bloom, wends his way through the urban landscape, the odyssey of a modern-day Ulysses.
